Marina del Rey

The coastal community of Marina del Rey, California is located in the center of Los Angeles' Westside between Venice Beach and Playa del Rey, four miles north of Los Angeles International Airport.

Marina del Rey comprises 807 acres, of which 1/2 is under water. It is actually a man-made phenomenon, having been constructed in the late 1950s. The approximate borders include the area west of Lincoln Boulevard, east of Via Dolce, north of Ballona Creek and south of Washington Boulevard/Oxford Basin, and the Pacific Ocean. This is the area closest to the marina waterfront and close to the water's edge. This area's land and water is entirely owned by the County of Los Angeles, and is leased out to private leaseholders on long term agreements. The community is surrounded on three sides by the City of Los Angeles. (The greater Marina del Rey area has different boundaries.)

Marina del Rey's dominant feature, the Marina, is the world's largest man-made small craft harbor with eight basins having a capacity for 5,300 boats and is home port to approximately 6,500 boats.
